Evelyn La Quaif maintains an active career directing opera, operetta, and musical theater. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada who holds a dramatic arts degree and is an English major, began her theatrical career as a rock singer, actress, dancer, and finally as an operatic soprano with a repertoire of over thirty roles.
Ms. La Quaif made her professional directing debut in May of 2000 with the rare one act production of Zanetto coupled with Cavalleria Rusticana for the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera (NJAVO). Since becoming the resident Stage Director of NJAVO in the fall of 2000, she has staged numerous original productions for that company, including La Boheme, Merry Widow, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, La Traviata, Tosca, Lucia di Lammermoor, L’elisir d’amore, Die Fledermaus, Un Ballo in Maschera, Madama Butterfly, Rigoletto, and Aida. On October 16th she will be directing Puccini’s Tosca at the BergenPAC in Englewood, New Jersey.
Ms. La Quaif is in great demand as a master class presenter and has worked with singers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Based in New York City, she maintains a private voice studio working with singers on acting, interpretation, and vocal technique.
